Crackley Celebrates An Eco Maths Number Day

Pupils came to school dressed in their finest green and discovered how mathematics can support the real world in creating a sustainable future. They explored topics ranging from measuring food waste, to how Maths is used to recycle rubbish and even calculating food miles. They also heard some very sobering statistics about the impact of climate change and pollution on the planet. Pupils enjoyed activities such as creating bar charts of their recycling, calculating food waste in tons, looking at temperature increases around the world, and suggesting multiplication arrays for future planting.  

 Linking Number Day to pupils' studies of sustainability allowed us to show the importance of maths in the context of today's world and all while supporting the NSPCC.
